Brief Description:  Trimmed HS, Set (R) elevator travel limits

Today I finished up the trimming of the HS skin so that it clears the elevator balance arms. I had to take the HS off so that I could more easily get to the bottom skin to cut out the notch required. After re-attaching the HS I hung the right elevator and started to take some measurements to determine the elevator travel limits. I do not need to trim the forward stop, the one used for nose up limit. The elevator horn does not touch the stop at the maximum nose up limit. About the only thing I can think to do is rivet on a small piece of metal onto the forward side of the horn so that it will make contact with the stop at the travel limit. It is only about 3/32 from the stop at the max limit. It amounts to about 1.5 degrees of excess travel. This stop (F811) is already installed on the QB so it would be a lot of work to take it out and put on new one in.

I started to trim the aft stop, F812 angle. It looks like a lot will have to come off here. You can see from the photo how much I already removed, and the line is the limit I am willing to trim. I decided to stop, I will give Van’s a call tomorrow when they open. I did do some research of other builder sites and this seems to be a common problem. We will see what Van’s has to say.
