Brief Description:  Right Fuel Sender and P/U

Well I can’t catch a break today, first I find that the right fuel level sender is bad in the low range and then my Dynon roll servo bracket has the holes slightly off. You can read about the roll bracket in another entry.

I first fit the fuel pickup for the right tank. It fit per the plans which got me to thinking about the left side. Due to a big blob of proseal in the left tank I can’t get the fuel pick up in the left very close to the inside wall of the tank. In the plans it shows the pickup between the tank drain and the interior side of the tank. On the left side the pickup screen sits almost on top of the drain hole. I was concerned this might cause trouble so I called Van’s and they said it would be fine there as long as it was on the bottom of the tank which it is, so press on!.

I then move onto the fuel level sender. I bent the wire for the float and then snapped it in place on the sender. I hooked it up to the fuel gauge thinking all would work well like the left side did yesterday but noooo! The sender gets erratic and drops to zero below about the 8 gallon area. The left side worked nice and smoothly so I know my electrical hook ups were fine. In looking at the sender the contact pad seems to have some type of resin on it which I think is preventing full contact. I looked at the left and I can see a nice shinny line all across the sensor contact filaments. On the right sender the upper part has a shinny area but the low end does not so that is why the low area gets erratic and finally drops to zero. I found this out after Van’s had closed so I will have to call on Tuesday for a new sender or a suggestion on how to get this on to work.

The last thing I did was to set the torque on the right fuel tank “Z” bracket bolts.
