Brief Description:  Riveted on nutplates to pitot mast

I primed the end of the pitot mast per the instructions the other day so now that it was dry I installed the nut plates. The mast is chrome but they still suggested priming the base of the mast. I am off on a trip today so I knocked this out this morning before my flight left. This was very easy; the Gretz mount comes with the holes all drilled to size and the countersink already done. It was a matter of dropping in the rivet and giving it a squeeze.

I went with the Gretz mount over the SafeAir1 mount mainly because I liked that the mast was removable and adjustable. The SafeAir1 mast is welded to the base plate so if you needed to remove it you had to remove rivets from the wing skin and then remove the mast and base plate as one unit. With four screws I can remove the Gretz mount for replacement and or maintenance if required. Well why would you want to remove the pitot mast? Well I am not sure but at least if whack or damage the mast it can be removed. The other nice part that might be over kill is you can add washers under the mounting screws and adjust the tilt of the mast into the air stream. If you want to save money go with the SafeAir1 mount. I am using SafeAir1 products for all of my pitot and static plumbing; they make a real nice kit which will make the job quick.
