Brief Description:  Laid up lower windscreen fairing

Today I tackled my first true fiberglass layup. I intended to do the entire fairing but I worked so slowly that I only did the lower part of the fairing. I started my mixing up some resin and flox thickened with cabosil. I made a nice fillet along the windscreen to use a base for the cloth. I began with ½ inch tape and worked my way up in size. The ½ inch size worked fine but after than I could not lay it around the curve if the piece was more than 6 inches long. I reverted to cutting out strips from some BID cloth I had on hand. This lay on nicely but the edges tended to fray the nice thing about the 2” tape is that I has a nice finished edge. The BID has a much tighter weave so this should help when I do the final filling and fairing. Plan now will be to layup the sides to match the skirt then work the pieces over the top of the windscreen. I want to get a local builder who has experience with glass work to okay my plan of action for the next part.
