Brief Description:  2. Taped up fairing edge

I really wasted a couple hours today, and I will tell you how. I painstakingly taped up the windscreen to get the lines how I wanted them. I wanted as much windscreen left open as possible, so that was my goal as I laid things out. I put on 5 layers of electrical tape to hopefully get a nice scrip edge at the windscreen side of things.

After I was done and sat back to admire my work, I thought to close the canopy to see what I need to do for the transition between the skirt and the fuselage. It was then that I saw my error. Aesthetically it looks good to have the upper edge of the skirt fall in line with the aft edge of the windscreen fairing, well my tape job puts it about a half inch too low. I will stew about this tonight and see if I can keep some of the work I did or start over.

This explains why I see so many RV-8’s with the lower edge of the wind screen with a really high fairing. I wanted the most visibility so I set my edge to match the contour of the skin.
