Brief Description:  Fit Canopy Latch

I put in a few hours today getting the canopy latch mechanism to fit. The part that hooks onto the tab on the roll bar needs a fair bit of material cut off. The way it this works is the rotation of the handle and the cam-action will pull the canopy tight. I was ready for several integrations in that the plans say it should hold the canopy snug but should not pull it forward.

The way I attacked this issue was to draw a line matching the lower edge of the canopy latch. Then with the latch held in place I rotated it until I just touched the tab on the roll bar. The latch has to be bent just a few degrees to get it to line up with the tab. I made my bend just behind the forward edge of the handle in the closed position. I then with this last mark I drew a line thru this mark parallel with the edge of the latch.

The tab measured close to ¼” so I drew a circle that size tangent to the two lines I have drawn. I drilled the hole just inside of the one I drew and cut outside the lines. It was a near perfect fit, just a little bit to file and sand to get to the perfect fit.

The latch will easily fall over the tab as the handle rotates and locks in the last bit of travel. I have misplaced the spring that is part of the assembly so I will have to order one of those.

I still need to drill the hole in the handle, but instead of a screw as called out in the plans I think I will use a stainless set screw.
