Brief Description:  Moved wings to airport

Today was not really work but a milestone none the less. My sister Robin was visiting so I enlisted her help to move the wings to the airport. Anita says she will have a slot to park her car this winter since it is a new one and the rains will start soon so this was a goodtime to get this done.

I had thought about this move and how best to protect the wings, I had elaborate ideas of foam, blankets and ropes. In the end I just added some Styrofoam and some foam shelf padding to absorb the road shock and left the wings in the cradle. We just wheeled it onto the trailer. Two sofa cushions protected the front and rear of the wings in case I had to make a sudden stop. It was nice that we have horses, I was able to remove the entire insides of the horse trailer, the floor has rubber mats and the trailer suspension is a little smoother than a typical cargo trailer, the trailer has a ramp and is low to the ground! I want to make a bench out of the crate the last kit came in so that was added to the load and used, it to keep the wing cradle from moving side to side.

The ride to the airport was 30 min, mostly highway at 50-60 mph and the wings arrived safely. I have them on saw horses so I can clean off more of the preservative oil put on at the factory (QB wings). I think this is only the second time they have been out of the cradle, all of the work I did was with them in the cradle, even the riveting of the bottom skin.
