Brief Description:  HS Tips

I've tried glassing the HS tips several times using the procedure outlined in the plans with no luck. They call for installing a foam block with dabs of Bondo then covering with fiberglass and resin. The problem I kept having was that the resin kept finding a way to hang onto the foam block thereby making the removal difficult and messy.I found another builder on the Internet who just laid a sheet of wax paper on a flat surface, stretched out a square of glass, then poured on the resin. After it has setup he attached it to the fairing. The RV-10 fairing is slightly different in that the inner side perpendicular to the HS while the outer side tapers aft. This requires the glass to have a compound shape. I followed the same process as the builder mentioned above with exception that when the glass was about 75% setup I pulled it from the wax paper then laid it against the fairing and held it in place with small dabs of Bondo. After the Bondo setup I then mixed a small amount of resin and ran a bead around the perimeter of the fairing where it met the new glass sheet. A few hours later and presto! The elevators hug them like a glove (ahem, with a minimum of 1/8" clearance of course per plans).
