Brief Description:  Requesting Final Inspection

With the build at 90+% complete it is time to start arranging the final inspection which I believe will result in the Registration of Aircraft and the Special Certificate of Airworthiness (applicable to experimentals). I say 'believe' because even though there is an abundance of information on the web on all the requirements, processes and outcomes to get the plane legally airborne, it is not exactly clear, at least not to me.

But having sent in my request for final inspection and paid the $1,260 fee to the MD-RA (Transport Canada's delegated agency) I quickly got back a response in the form of a notification of who my inspector would be and a plethora of forms required for this next step.

These forms included: application for Certificate of Airworthiness; inital application for a Special Certificate of Airworthiness for Amateur-Built Aircraft plus a detailed guide for filling it in; application for Registration of Aircraft; an Inspection Notice, Construction with the name of my inspector; the Fuel Flow Report template; the Weight & Balance report template; instructions for the Journey Log (including magnetic compass calibration, pitot & static system test, altimeter & transponder test, ELT test, and final inspection record); After Test Period report (25 hours fault-free operation and climb test report). Lots of work to do plus reports and applications to fill out! But at least it is clearer now what has to be done.
