Brief Description:  Rigging the Flaps

Today I continued rigging the flaps. I decided to split the flap pin instead of drilling a hole in the aileron bracket. To do this the manual recommends drilling a hole in the skin and safety wiring the flap pins to the hole. I didn't really like that idea and came across a better one on the VAF forum. Basically I took two opposing eyes from a scrap piece of hinge and cut them to length. Then I riveted them together and drilled a hole for a number 8 screw in the middle. I drilled a matching hole for a number 8 screw in the flap brace about mid span of the flap and then attached a platenut. This screw will now hold the double eye bracket to the flap brace. I can insert the flap pins from the middle, slip the bracket on and screw it to the flap brace and the pins are securly held in place.

After making the brackets I removed one eye from the flap side of the hinge and two eyes from the wing side. Then I bent the ends of the pins, measured them and then cut them to length.
