Brief Description:  Finishing Right Main & Removing Heater Boxes

Tonight I riveted the plate to the right landing gear mount and I have it sitting back inside the airplane. For giggles, I tried to put some of the original hardware inside the holes - but I didn't get too far.

I plan on replacing with all new hardware anyway, so I'll try and pickup the replacement hardware in the next day or two.

Earlier today, I decided to scrap Vans aluminum heater boxes in favor of stainless steel boxes from Plane Innovations. It's just a safety of flight issue for me - I want a complete stainless firewall and I don't like having aluminum sealing the firewall.

Aluminum melts at 1200 degrees F. Wind blown 100LL burns at 1875 F. Stainless melts at 2600F. In tests, the Alumimum boxes melted in 16 seconds at 1875F. The stainless was subjected to 1875F for 10 minutes and was fine.

It's pretty scary when you thing that the fuel system is in the tunnel and right behind those aluminum boxes.

For those of you watching on the Internet and building your own RV-10, you're welcome to send me your questions as to why I chose stainless. Hopefully I can save you some work in the process too.

So I removed my Aluminum boxes and also removed nearly all of the pro-seal. There's just a couple of specs remaining. I don't plan on removing any more.
