Brief Description:  Phone call to Vans - Re Elevator Spar

I talked to Ken at Vans this morning.

I had two topics.

1) Riveting the Inboard Inspar ribs of the Horiztonal Stab.

These rivets where these two ribs attach to the rear spar are just about impossible to drive. I asked if he had any ideas, but he really didn't. The only suggestion he could offer was to drill some of the rivets holding the rib to the skin, and try bending the rib out of the way.

I'm not real sure I did a good job of explaining it, and I don't think he understood what I was trying to say. Anyway, I've still left these rivets out. I'm sure I'll come up with a solution at some point.

2) One of my rear spars on the elevator has a 1/2" bow in it. This causes a major gap between the rear spar and the stiffiners. This spar is made out of very light aluminum, so I fluted it straight.

My call was just to get his opinion on using flutes on the spar. He wasn't too excited about it, so I chose to place an order for another one.

So there probably won't be much progress this weekend.
