Brief Description: Assembling the Elevator Skeleton
This evening I didn't do too much. I did cleco the stiffeners inside the right Elevator Skin. I also clecos the rear spar in place.
This is when I noticed that I wasn't getting a very good fit between the stiffiners and the rear spar.
After a little exploration, I discovered that the rear spar has a bow in it. After checking to make sure the flanges are bent at an 84 degree angle, I chose to flute the rear spar.
I'm not sure if that was a good idea or not. I'm going to call Vans just to make sure they're okay with me fluting a spar for straightness.
Anyway, after the fluting, the spar was perfectly straight and the skeleton/skins fit much better.
I feel like I'm getting in a progress rut. I felt this way on the rudder, but and the elevator is making me feel that way too. I really need a good hard day in the shop getting good progress behind me. (Of course, if I could get my back to feeling better I'd be able to spend more time working on the airplane.)
