After a week off the project for work, I happily got up early this morning to pick up where I left off on the elevator trim tab. I wasn't really happy with results of bending the tabs on the ends and wanted to tweak them abit. Well I tweaked myself into a corner and cracked the trim tab at the end of one of the tabs. I had researched this item and knew it was a potential problem and many builders elected to cut off the tab and fabricate ribs to close out the ends of the part. Since I am so close to my wings getting here, I will just order anther tab. I then moved on to counter-sinking the spar for the trim tab and somehow WAY over counter-sunk one of the holes and ruined that part as well. Not a good morning, but not exactly a disaster as I don't have much time invested into the trim tab and the replacement parts are cheap. Oh well! I will work on a few other items over the next couple of weeks until the parts and my wings arrive. Plus working in the garage has been tough in the winter - takes awhile for the heater to warm things up in the morning. I will plan to work every other morning until I run out of things to do on the tail.
Crack isn't visible in this photo but its at the top of the tab. Notice the uneven edge!
Major screw-up with the mico-stop and lapse in concentration. Oh well its a cheap replacement part.
