Brief Description: Removed stubborn fitting (conversion to C/S prop)
-Well I had previously attempted to remove the pipe plug installed on the front of the crankcase to fit the stainless steel oil line that runs from the governor to the front of the crankcase. All I managed to do was weaken/strip the 1/4 hex in the center of the plug. Fast forward and the guys at VAF.net save the day again. I have thought about using an easy-out screw extractor that would fit into the hex and wouldn't need drilling (I was rightfully scared of putting fresh metal chips into my engine!) The guys at VAF agreed and several mentioned the use of heat. Today I obtained the extractor and with about :25 seconds of heat from the little handheld MAPP gas torch (tried a heat gun -no joy) and it came out without further issues!
The stubborn fitting - not the paint is chipped from tapping it with a mallet-duh
The extractor doing it's work. No drilling - no metal in the engine.
A nervous :25 second burst did the job and didn't even discolor the paint.
