Brief Description:  Pitot

I'm back from a couple of weeks in Cape Breton...great to see family and friends.

Before I can finish riveting the left wing I need to get the pitot mast installed. I'll be using a Garmin pitot and they do not come with the mast which is the Gretz mast available at ACS. I plan to mount the mast on an access cover for easy installation and future removal. I ordered separately a pre made access cover for a Dynon pitot...I had done some research and found that Dynon's pitot also fit the Gretz mast...so the holes should line up right? Didn't work that way...the hole in the pre made cover was much bigger so I had to make my own cover (I used .050). After screwing around for about an hour with fly cutters etc that couldn't give me the size cover I needed, I did it the old fashioned way and used the shears to cut close to my line. I then used the pre made cover as a template for the screw holes and used part of the Gretz kit as a template for the hole. After drawing the hole I removed as much msterial as I could with a unibit, then used the very handy "hand nibbler" to get close to my line. I filed the rest of it away until I got a good fit. Then I used the scotchbrite wheel to round out the cover. Came out pretty good.
