Brief Description:  Bonding the Passenger Door Halves

Tonight, I finished preparing the passenger door halves for bonding and then bonded them per the instructions. I made sure to cleco them to the fuselage, so the finished doors will match the shape of the fuselage exactly. You have to move rather quickly to slather the epoxy on and get the halves together, so that you get a good bond. The parabeam section was the worst, as it requires a lot of epoxy to saturate it. I used Saran Wrap to cover the parabeam, then I could manipulate the resin all through it, totally saturating it. When I was ready, I cut open the Saran wrap, pulled out the parabeam (using gloves), let it drip out excess resin, then bonded it on the door halves. I used tongue depressors to spread the epoxy evenly along all the other areas, as both side of the door halves need to be fully wetted and you have to mate them before they begin to cure. I used plastic sheet to prevent any of the epoxy from squeezing out onto the fuselage and sticking the door permanently to it. That would have been bad.
