Reviewed the VAF forum on the problems with the Reed switches and tried what other builders have done. I enlarged the hole in the left arm rest and advanced the switch but still no luck. I filed the WD-1217 pin tube and I could get continuity with the pin stopper partially extended. I lose continuity with the pin fully extended. I also modified the cushion clamp (trimmed the rubber lining and bent the tips) without much success. I tried putting the switch in different positions but could not make it work as it is supposed to. This is getting to be frustrating.
