Brief Description:  Cockpit painting

Another step completed! I finally managed to paint the cockpit and the support tubes black. I plan on installing the carpet kit as I think it makes a significant difference in noise and vibration dampening, so the black paint is probably a bit of an overkill. But, I didn't spend much time trying to sand the primer down, just scoffed it with a scotchbrite, then shot the paint. This way, where there is gaps in the carpet or angled pieces that will protrude, it will all blend in. The black makes the baggage compartment seem like an endless cavern. The next step will be to paint the remaining white primer in the firethorn red and the fuselage painting project will be finally completed, whew!

Now that the weather will be below the minimum painting temp of 60, I can still move forward with other steps such as installing the flight controls, instrumentation, electrical wiring, etc. I do want to paint the rest of the red as soon as possible so I can install the nose gear, throttle bar, motor mount, etc that is all forward of the firewall. It may be winter is Texas with snow and ice, but we still get 60 degree weather occassionaly, then another ice storm overnight :-)
