It's been three weeks since I've been able to work! I'm finally back in town and ready to make some progress. Prior to painting, I'm trying to track down every little detail that I have put off or forgotten, once the paint goes on its a little late to be adding things. It's possible I guess, but who wants to scratch new paint??!!
One of the little details I wanted was to install an avionics shelf that would support my remote mounted gear. So far I have a remote mounted transponder, ADS-B transceiver/WAAS GPS receiver, and my vertical power electrical system management. I designed, fabricated, and installed a shelf that is 8" wide and spans the width of the fuselage, right up against the firewall. I used the existing holes on the side, didn't alter the longerons, just slipped the 90 degree bend over the longeron between it and the skin. I drilled a very few holes in the firewall to support the forward edge and the triangular brace. All in all, it came out pretty well. Now on to painting the fuselage so I can get it mounted on the gear and move on....
