Brief Description:  Rudder completion

Today was a big deal. 23 years ago in a town far away I met Charles Randall and we shared a mutual dream that we each wanted to build an airplane. Time, kids, job changes, moving to the West Coast and back, and still we would dream every chance we got. Finally, we got to spend a few hours on a Saturday together and accomplished an important step, we completed the rudder build! This project is not going to just be filled with rivets, but lots of shared memories as well! Every rivet in the rudder skin was pulled by my oldest friend, imagine that every time I preflight my Savannah... We have decided that when the time is right we will fly the Savannah to Oshkosh as our victory lap!

I continued to be amazed at how light and strong the parts are as they are completed. While the manual is probably not the best, the parts are finished well and can only go a certain way. I have settled into a comfortable routine of assembling everything first with clecoes to verify final fit, then riveting and treating with anti-corrosion, then final skin riveting. Taking the time to set up my shop the way I want it is beginning to pay off. Note: Thank you Valter from fly-buylsa.com for answering the phone after two rings... his tip on cutting the last rivets in half near the trailing edge to shorten was a life saver, otherwise the two rivets on opposite sides collide with each other, not allowing a proper seat. The manul may not be the best, but the phone support is excellent!
