Brief Description:  Repitch Prop

The "Experimental" side of my personal aviation continues. The engine continues to run too warm. I compare plugs #2 and #4 to verify that things look good inside, they show typical ashy stains for running the mixture full rich... which I am to guard against detonation while the engine runs so warm. After messing with the cowl A LOT with various cardboard and duct tape modifications, I was only getting slight improvements. After talking to Dan Weseman (aka "my engine guy") he suggested experimenting with a coarser prop setting, theorizing that maybe the flatter prop was actually blocking some air flow. I tried it and it helped! Now it will climb at higher than Vy and run full throttle flat out without overheating. I think with the coarser prop and the new sheet metal work on the cowl I'll finally be set! It takes about 45 minutes to reset the pitch, not too bad. Just remove the spinner, remove four retainer bolts, loosen the four pinch bolts, reset the prop to the appropriate pin setting, retorque bolts, safety wire, and reinstall the spinner. No problem! :-)
