Brief Description:  Finished riveting the trail edge of elevators (9-1

Spent some time going through each hole to remove the excess sealant and making sure the #40 drill bit would rotate freely by hand. I laid in all the rivets and taped them in place so I could flip the elevator over to set the rivets. I tried using the Cleveland rivet set tool which has an angle built into the dies, but that wasn’t giving me the results I wanted. I then re-read the instructions and section 5, where they suggested to start with the rivet gun perpendicular to the rivet, then rotate to align with the skin. I stole the bottom rivet set holder from my c-frame and loaded it into the rivet gun. I then turned down the force one notch and put the factory head against the backing plate. I only set the rivets part way and started perpendicular to the rivet, then rotated to align with the skin…still leaving it only partially set, using a random pattern and the small diameter flat set. This worked well, then I followed up with the mushroom set to finish…again in a random pattern. I’m happy with the results and the trail edge still looks straight.
