Brief Description: Elevator initial assembly (9-6)
Tons and tons of deburring…oh how I love to deburr…and I’m not even to the wings yet. Speaking of wings…almost 10 months since I placed the order. I guess it’s good that I still have a lot to do on the Emp. Anyway, actually started to put stuff together before I thought to take some pictures. The skins ribs, spars and doublers are all in place. I added the tip flange assembly, but it took me awhile to figure out the best order to sandwich all the pieces. It ends up with a 4-piece sandwich at the end of the spar. I did a little research on the orientation that others had used and settled in on what Ed did at goodplaneliving and what was observed on the Vans RV-10 (http://www.goodplaneliving.com/elevators-taking-shape/). It puts the inner rib of the tip cap inside the spar flange, then the spar flange, then the tip cap wrap skin, then finally the outer elevator skin. The directions don’t show it, but this is what it looks like everyone is doing including Vans…build on. Next trimmed the wedges (VA-140) and attached the shear clips.
