Brief Description:  Primed Vertical Stabilizer parts and Rudder Work

First step was to set up my AlumaPrep 33 and Alodine 1201 soak baths from the plastic lined plywood boxes I had made earlier. I used wire to hang the pieces in the acid bath for 3 minutes. I would then rinse them of with a garden sprayer tank filled with distilled water and let then dry. Next I soaked the parts in the Alodine for 3 minutes and rinsed off with distilled water. I hung the parts up on lines to dry. Once dry I primed the parts with SEM self etching primer #39693 green. I next prepped the vertical stabilizer skin with a scotch brite pad and cleaned with Lacquer Thinner. I used my HVLP sprayer to spray on 2 coats of zinc chromate to the inside of the skin only.
While the parts were drying I went back to work on the rudder skeleton. I clecoed the R-606PP, R-607PP and R-608PP reinforcement plates to the rudder spar. I deburred and fluted the R-903 tip rib and R-912 counterbalance rib. Next, I clecoed the tip rib and counterbalance rib to the spar and drilled to #30. Lastly, I clecoed the R-913 counterbalance skin to the tip rib and counterbalance rib and spar. I match drilled all the holes to #40.
I removed all the primed parts from the hangers and called it a day.
