Brief Description:  Pitch Servo Bracket Installation

The Garmin GSA 28 pitch servo is mounted to the supplied pitch bracket which is riveted to the F-729A bell crank rib just aft of the baggage compartmentas shown in DWG 26. The manual calls for mounting the brackets forward edge 2.66" aft of the elevator bell crank pivot. I marked this location and also marked the 4 AN470AD4 rivets that would have to be drilled out from the rib. Using a #30 drill bit, I drilled the heads of each rivet to a depth of 1/8" and used the opposite end of a #30 bit to snap the heads off. Wire cutters made removal of the set end of the rivets easy. I clamped the pitch bracket in place and used the 4 holes in the rib and match drilled the holes through the bracket to #30. I removed the bracket and marked 4 more holes toward the bottom and also for holes in the bottom flange for AN426AD3 rivets that I would set from the bottom of the fuselage skin. I drilled the 4 #30 holes and the 4 #40 holes and deburred. I clecoed the bracket back to the bell crank rib and match drilled the 8 holes. I deburred all the holes and then dimpled the 4 holes in the skin with my dimple nail die. I machine countersunk the 4 holes in the pitch servo bracket flange. I vacuumed the floor and cleaned both the floor and bracket and sprayed gray self etching primer. Next time I will rivet the bracket to the rib.
