Brief Description: Conduit Run from Wing Root to Wing Tip
I thought about using the black ribbed conduit that Van's sells to run the lighting wiring to the wing tip. I decided to use something stronger and more rigid. I found 1/2 inch o.d. semi truck air line that was flexable, light and strong. I would need to drill a 5/8 inch hole through every rib. Van's has a handout on where you can drill additional holes in the ribs. I used the handout as a template and made a cardboard template to mark each rib. Most of the ribs were easy to drill with my step drill, but the ones inboard for the wingwalk reinforcing I could not get to. I needed a long drill at least 14 inches long. What I wound up doing was grind down one of my step drills so the largest step was 5/8 inch and attach that to a drill extension. I was able to easily drill the inboard ribs. I deburred the holes and installed the snap bushings. I fed the conduit out to the wing tip. Later I will use some fuel tank sealant to secure the conduit to each rib.
