Brief Description: Fitting Fuel Tank Attach Bracket
The next step after drilling the rear spar is to install the two fuel tank attach brackets near the leading edge of the wing. The brackets are bolted to the fuselage with 2 AN3 bolts. Months earlier I had made the 2 F-796B-L/R reinforcing angles and the F-796C/D shims as called out in DWG 38. Having a quick build fuselage requires drilling out 5 rivets on each side of the fuselage. Two rivets are AN426AD4 and three are AN426AD3's. I used my angle drill to drill the rivets out on the left side. Next I held the reinforcing angle bracket on the inside of the fuselage against the F-902-L bulkhead and marked the five holes with a short pencil. The top hole needs to be drilled to 3/16" for the AN3 bolt. I decided to use the existing 1/8" hole in the fuselage as a guide and clamp the reinforcing angle to the inside. I drilled the 3/16" hole through the angle using the hole in the fuselage as a guide. Next I installed the fuel tank attach bracket using the upper hole and an AN3-10 bolt to hold the bracket in place. Now I could use the lower bracket hole as a drill guide to drill the second 3/16" hole.
