Brief Description: Initial Fit of Ailerons to Wing
Before I can install the wings for initial fit and incidence, I need to install the ailerons and then the flaps so all the component alignments can be made. The Ailerons go on first so I can align the trailing edge of the flaps to the ailerons since the flap piano hinge is adjustable and the aileron hinge is not. I pulled the four aileron hinge brackets A-406-1 and A-407-L/R and the necessary hardware to attach as called for in DWG 13A. The quick build ailerons already had the center nutplate installed that allowed me to install the A-407-L/R hinge brackets with an AN3-4A bolt. The other two holes would need to be match drilled to #12 drill size. The brackets already had #30 holes as a guide. I aligned the bracket and tightened down the bolt. I drilled a #30 hole first and then a #21 and last a 3/16" hole. I final sized the hole with a #12 ream for a perfect bolt fit. Next I match drilled the two A-406-1 outboard hinge brackets in the same manner. I deburred the parts and installed the hinge brackets to the ailerons. I gathered the necessary hardware to install the ailerons to the wings. First I would need to make two inboard hinge spacers from AT-058x5/16" aluminum tubing to a length of 17/32". I cut these on my band saw and deburred the ends with my disc sander and finishes with a debur of the holes. I was able to intall the ailerons on my own by holding the aileron with one hand and installing the two bolts. Using my washer holder I pulled the bolt out slightly and inserted each washer as called for in the drawing. I did the outside bracket first so I could get the exact length of the inboard spacer. I filed the end of the spacer for a perfect fit and installed it and the necessary washers. I torqued the AN365-1032 nuts to spec.
