Referencing DWG 34A, I made two copies of the landing gear socket hole template. One of the templates I copied in reverse so I had a left and right template. The template shows the rivets so I just punched out the hole on the template and then I could visually align the template to the fusalage. Before I taped the template to the fusalage I cut out the socket hole. Since the socket hole is elliptical I used a 1 1/2" hole saw and drilled two holes. To clean the hole up I used my die grinder with a high speed trimming bit to clean up the hole. I had to trim the hole several times to get the gear weldment socket tube to fit through the hole. Also I had to drill out two plate nuts from the spar box flange and trim the F-772B floor stiffener so the gear weldment would fit. I deburred both gear socket holes. Once I had both gear weldments fit to the fusalage my next step would be to match drill the bolts holes.
