Brief Description: Installed Elevator Cable Fairings
Installed the horizontal stabilizer on the fuselage. Used a fiber glass rod to follow the path of the up elevator cable through the stabilizer and up to the fabric of the right side of fuselage. Marked the intersection of the fuselage fabric and the rod and checked the location against that recorded for the cable penetration. Used the soldering iron to melt a 1/2 inch diameter hole in the fuselage fabric. Ran the right side up elevator cable through the fuselage fabric. Pull the cable tight and checked the routing within the fuselage. Pull the cable back into the fuselage and rerouted to clear a routing conflict. Pulled the cable back through the fabric and taped it to the fiber glass rod. Pull the up elevator cable tight at the horn and adjusted the hold in the fuselage fabric to provide clear passage. Repeated the process for the left side up elevator cable routing.
Used the dremel tool to open the triangle end of the four cable fairings. Removed the right up elevator cable from the horizontal stabilizer and placed one of the cable fairing on the cable. Installed the elevator on the stabilizer. Connected the right up cable to the elevator horn. Moved the cable fairing down to the fuselage fabric and marked its outline on the fuselage. Applied glue to the outline on the fuselage and to the back side of the fairing and left to dry. Repeated the same process for the left side of the fuselage. Positioned the right side fairing over the cable and pressed it into place. Repeated for the left side of the fuselage.
Marked the penetration point on the right side of the fuselage for the lower elevator cable. Used the soldering iron to melt a 1/2 inch hole in the fuselage fabric. Routed the down elevator cable through the fuselage fabric and connected it to the right side elevator horn. Set the turnbuckles for tension on the elevator cables. Checked the right side cable penetration of the fuselage and adjusted as necessary for a clear cable. Repeated the process for the left side.
