Brief Description: Installation of Access Holes on Center Wing Sectio
Turned the top side up. Measured the length of the cutout with the fabric tape and cut it to length. Folded the tape in half and creased it to mark the center. Applied a 1 inch strip of glue around the top of the cutout and along the top inside edge. Laid the fabric tape along the inside edge and ironed it in place with the small iron. Worked the top edge of the tape down along the top of the wing section and ironed it in place. Installed fabric tape along both ends of the wing section and wiped away the excess glue with a shop towel. Completed the installation of the trailing edge tapes by ironing them in place on the top surface.
Installed four plastic rings at each of the inside access holes marked on the bottom of the fabric. Marked and cut out four patches to cover the rings. Applied glue around each of the rings and laid a patch center over each ring. Glued the top down over the ring and wiped away the excess glue with a shop towel. Allowed each access hole to dry.
Used the soldering iron melted out the center of the top left access hole. Checked the alignment of the hole to the strut attachment. The access hole was too close to the cross member and in the way of the strut penetration point. Measured and marked the expected penetration point for the strut. Also positioned and marked the penetration point for the drag cable on the other side of the wing rib. Removed the access hole patch and plastic ring so it could be moved about 1 inch closer to the center of the wing section. Cut a new patch to cover the access hole and the strut penetration point and glued it in place. Removed the other three access patches and plastic rings in preparation for movement to new access points.
Installed the plastic ring on the top left access point at its new location. Cut a new patch and applied it over the plastic ring gluing it in place and removing the excess glue with a shop towel.
