Brief Description:  Continued Covering Left Side of Elevator

Laid the elevator on the table with the fabric side down. Laid fabric over the frame and marked the outline with a pencil. Cut out the covering along the marked line. Laid the fabric on the elevator and marked the position of the elevator horn. Cut the fabric along the marked line to fit around the horn. Set the elevator in the sawhorse with the outside edge down. Attached the fabric to the back end of the elevator. Applied two quick passes over the end with the small iron to set the fabric. Turned the elevator over in the sawhorse and pulled the fabric tight around the frame and set in place with the small iron. Worked the corners with the small iron to complete a smooth curve. Trimmed the fabric to fit within the marked lines. Applied a line of glue within the marked lines around the elevator panel. Smoothed the fabric around the frame with the small iron. Set the regular iron to 250 degrees and ironed this side of the elevator. Cut two 3 by 7 inch patches and used one to mark the area around the elevator horn. Cut the patch in half the long way to within 1 1/2 inches of the end. Laid the patch around the horn and marked its outline. Removed the patch and applied glue to the area within the marked lines. Placed the patch around the elevator horn and bushed more glue on top of the patch. Wiped the excess glue from the patch with a paper towel. Repeated the process for the other side horn.

Applied reinforcing tape to each of the cross members of the elevator centered over the drilled holes in the elevator. Using the soldering iron melted each of the stitching holes to allow rivets to hold the fabric in place. Installed pop rivets in each of the stitching holes. Used the large headed pop rivets in the center two rows and regular 1/8 inch pop rivets in the remainder. Measured a length of tape to cover the rivets. Applied glue around the edge of the elevator frame and set aside to dry.

Measured a length on the outside of the frame and cut tape to cover it. Folded the tape in half and m
