Brief Description:  Covering of Vertical Stab and Elevator

Turned on the heat in the tent. Laid out the vertical stabilizer and the fabric to cover one side. Attached the fabric to the bottom of the stabilizer by rubbing it against the glue. Mounted the stabilizer in the clamping sawhorse at the bottom. Pulled the fabric tight across the stabilizer and attached the fabric to the parameter. Using the small iron fixed the fabric to the stabilizer by ironing it around the frame. Added additional glue on the inside of the frame and set it aside to dry.

Mounted the rudder in the sawhorse with the rudder post up. Placed a length of fabric tape along the post and marked the hinge locations. Cut opening in the tape at each hinge. Laid the tape along the post and anchored it using a pass of the small iron. Applied about 8 inches of glue along the post under the tape and on top wiping the excess glue from the top with a paper towel. Repeated for the length of the post. Turned the rudder over in the sawhorse. Applied glue to the tape around the perimeter of the rudder in 8 inch increments wiping the excess with a paper towel. This finished the rudder.

Laid the vertical stabilizer on the table with the fabric side down. Using the small iron smoothed the fabric 2/3 or the way around the frame. Cut away the excess fabric. Turned the stabilizer over and using the regular iron at 250 degree ironed the fabric. Marked the glue line on the fabric where the other side should come to. Applied a coat of glue around the outside edge of the stabilizer and set aside to dry.

On the elevator applied tape to all of the edges and rivets. Applied glue around the perimeter of the elevator and set aside to dry.

Laid the vertical stabilizer fabric side down on the table. Placed a second piece of fabric over the stabilizer and attached the bottom edge to the frame. Put the stabilizer in the sawhorse and worked the fabric tight around the frame. Secured the fabric to the frame with the small iron. Applied glue to the fabric within the marked area and set aside to dry.
