Brief Description:  Installed Wing Position Ligjhts

Used a small paper cup to form the oval shape needed for the back plate for the position lights. Marked the shape on a small rectangle of .020 aluminum sheet. Cut the shape from the rectangle and sanded the edges smooth. Positioned the back plate on the wing tip and found that the back plate was too wide for the space. Trimmed both sides of the back plate and sanded smooth. Again checked the fit of the back plate in the space and found it correct. Trimmed a second back plate to match the first and sanded its edges smooth. Stacked the two back planes together and marked the center position with a center pouch. Used a 1/2 inch step drill to drill out the center hole in each back plane. Fished the position light wire from the wing tip and pulled it straight. Removed 4 inches of the wire. Installed the LED light into the back plate and fitted it into the opening of the wing tip. Drilled the top mounting hole through the back plate with a 5/32 inch drill bit. Moved the back plate away from the wing. Used the soldering iron to melt away the fabric around the mounting hole. Drilled the 5/32 inch hole in the wing tip out to 11/64 inches. Installed a #8 blind nut into the wing tip. Mounted the back plane to the wing tip and drilled the bottom hole and installed a blind nut there. Cut the lead from the LED light to 5 inches. Trimmed the wires back about one inch on each end. Removed a 1/4 inch length of installation from each of the wires. Slid a 1 1/4 inch segment of heat shrink tubing down on the position light wiring. Used a heat-shrink splice to join the red wires together. Repeated the process for the blue/black pair. Once the spices have cooled slid the heat shrink tubing up over the splices and heated it to keep it in place. Slid the heat shrink tubing up over the splices and set in place. This completes the process for the right wing.

Installed the left wing position light in the same manner as described above.
