Brief Description: Start of Mounting of Heal Brakes
Positioned the brake fluid filler up on the fuselage and marked the mounting points on both sides. Cut two tabs and sanded the edges. Tig welded the tabs at the marked locations. Drilled and taped each tab for a 1024 screw. Mounted the brake fluid filler to each tab with a 1024 pan head screw 1/2 inch long. Positioned the heal brake peddles on the floor pans and determined the distance from the cockpit seat to the peddle. Set in the cockpit and tested several feet positions to determine the correct location for the brake peddles. Marked the location on the right inboard floor pan and drilled a 1/4 inch hole. Placed a 2 inch long full threaded ΒΌ inch bolt in the bole and threaded a nut down onto the floor pan. Placed the brake peddle on the bolt and secured it in place with a lock nut only tight enough not to prevent free movement.
Designed a mounting tab for hinges at the top of the foot channels. Cut two segments of .095 aluminum 5 inches wide and 5 inches long. Bent the square of aluminum in a chair shape with the bottom segment 2 inches wide, the riser 3/4 inches high and the remaining length in the bottom of the chair shape. Drilled a 3/16 inch hole in the top inside corner of the outside fool channel and a second hole in the top inside corner of the left foot channel. Marked the foot channel holes on the mounting tab and drilled the marked holes. Attached the hinge mounting tab to the foot channels with two AN3 bolts.
