Brief Description:  Installed Gas Cap on Forward Fuselage Cover

Measured the position of the gas upright filler tube from the alignment pin on the firewall. Double checked the measurements and then marked the center point of the opening on the cover. Drilled a pilot hole at the centerpoint of the gas cap opening. Used a 2 inch hole saw to drill at the center point on the cover. Inserted the gas cap assembly through the hole and aligned it with the center of the cover. Marked the mounting holes on the cover. Also marked the gas cap assemble where material needs to be removed to fit the cover. Removed the gas cap assembly and sanded away material on the flange of the gas cap. Drilled the forward right hole and the aft left for a #8 screw and tap. Bolted the forward and aft corners of the cap assembly and then drilled the other marked holes. Installed two additional #8 screws with nuts and tighten all bolts. Set the cover aside and started work on the control stick wiring for the mic control.

Search out some 22 gage wire and set it up to be pulled through the tube from the stick to the radio in the instrument panel. Completed the task after three failures. The next steps are to install the tube containing the wiring along the control bracket and up into the control stick. Installing the tubing into the cockpit will have to wait until we are clear of the camp site.
