Brief Description: Reinstall Fuel Tank and Ready Engine
On the fuel tank: doubled checked the fuel output value and sealed with pipe dope. Checked the drain fitting and cleared the threads with a 1/4 inch pipe tape. Removed the instrument panel and set it aside. Placed the tank in the fuselage and aligned it with the filler pipe forward. Had to remove the electrical distribution board for clearance for the fuel tank to move forward. Found that the top of the oil tank came into contact with the fuel tank and would not allow it to rotate in place. Loosened the oil tank strap and let it droop away from the firewall. Also removed the vent filter from the oil tank. This allowed the tank to be rotated up and in place. Put the strap protectors on the tank and tighten the strap until the mounting bolt could be installed and secured. Tighten the oil tank strap and replaced the vent filter. Drilled a 5/16 inch hole in the filler pipe for the installation of the fuel return line from the carburetor. To be installed later.
Placed the left rotor on the distributor shaft and rotated until aligned and seated completely. Installed the left distributor cap ensuring both top and bottom clips engage, Repeated the above for the right distributor. Checked the wiring for clearance and rerouted the left coil wire to clear the starter switch wire.
Installed the air filter and back plate and tighten the mounting bolts using two nylon wing nuts.
Attempted to install the starter assembly but found that the rear corner came into contact with the air filter frame and could not be aligned. Removed a crescent shaped section of the front plate of the air filter and tried the starter installation again. Still not enough clearance for correct alignment to complete the mounting. Removed the starter and left things for tomorrow.
