Fitted the instrument panel to mount between the longerons at 24 inches behind the firewall. Measured a 1/2 inch 4130 steel pipe to fit between the longerons at the 24 inch location. Tig welded the pipe in place. Cut three tabs 1/2 by 5/8 by 1/8 inches and tig welded in place on top of the pipe. Drilled each of the tabs for the 1024 tap and treaded each hole. Painted the pipe and tabs with black primer. Fitted the instrument panel in place and marked each mounting hole. Drilled each marked location with a 3/16 inch drill. Mounted the instrument panel with three 1024 by 1/2 inch screws.
