Brief Description:  Install Ground Plane for ADS-B Antenna

On the ELT antenna ground plate aligned the angle brace across the bottom of the plate and drilled one 1/8 inch hole through the brace and the plate. Secured the brace to the bottom of the plate with a 1/8 inch pop rivet. Aligned the brace across the plate and drilled a second 1/8 inch hole in the other end of the brace. Secured this hole with a 1/8 inch pop rivet. Drilled a center 1/8 inch hole in the brace and through the end flange and plate standoff. Installed 1/8 inch pop rivets in the open holes.

Cut four 14 inch lengths of copper tape. Laid out each tape in an X pattern from the ADS-B antenna, pressing the tape to the aluminum back plate and to the fabric out from the antenna. Mounted the ELT antenna to the ground place through the hole drilled for it. Installed the antenna cable from the ELT down to the bottom of the ground plate and onto the antenna. Aligned the plate level next to the left side and install a #8 wood screw 1/2 inch long. Completed the mounting by installing two more #8 screws in the predrilled holes on the flange.

The plastic insert on the right inside shoulder harness had broken during the work to install the ADS-B system in the storage area. Removed the three pop rivets and the broken insert. Laid out the remnants on a slice of plastic 1/4 inch thick. Cut a slot into the plastic the same size as the original and cut the segment free from the slab. Trimmed the edges and corner of the plastic and placed it in place of the old installation. Drilled the lower right hole with a 1/8 inch drill and then installed a 1/8 inch pop rivet. Drilled the left side hole and installed a pop rivet there. Drilled the center top hole and on trying to install a pop rivet there failed by pulling through. Used a longer 1/8 inch pop rivet with two washers, one on each end to successfully secure the top rivet. Inserted the shoulder strap back through the slot and secured it on the rod across the top of the storage compartment.
