Brief Description:  Canopy Holes

Before the weather gets much colder, I want to make sure I have made all the cuts and drilled all the holes in the canopy. So, this evening, I countersunk the holes and drilled them out to a larger size.

The plans call for the back canopy to be fastened to the rollbar with 6/32 screws. I drilled the holes with a #30 bit by mistake, so after checking with Vans, I'm going to use 8/32 screws instead. So, the holes in the front part of the back window need to be a bit larger and countersunk a bit more.

I was going to use a shaped stone tool to do the countersinking, but Vans said I could just use a regular countersink took. So, I used countersink tool I have already used a zillion times. It was MUCH faster than using the shaped tool. I ended up using it where I needed to countersink a bit more.

I was worried about drilling the holes bigger to account for expansion and contraction of the canopy... but I had not trouble.

Well... I did have trouble. When I went to tap the screw holes on the roll bar my tap broke off in one of the holes. (Remind me not to buy taps from Harbor Freight. Sometimes you get what you pay for.)
