Today I finally got up enough nerve to drill the hinge brackets. I have fit, re-fit, and re-re-fit the canopy frame a zillion times. I think everything is where it needs to be to drill.
After checking... and re-checking the gap in the canopy skin. I taped everything down and went for it.
Plan 1 - I purchased an angle drill to use for the pilot like hole. It didn't have enough clearance. (It didn't work)
Plan 2 - I read where a person used a 1/4 bit and twirled it with his hand until he could see where to drill. I spun the drill bit for 30 minutes and you could barely see a mark. (It didn't work)
Plan 3 - I finally had success by un-clecoing each side and using a bit in an extension to drill part way into the hinge bracket. When I took the canopy frame out and checked where the holes ended up I was SUPER HAPPY. They are about as close as you can get to perfect.
(I will take pictures tomorrow... somehow in the excitement I forgot to take a picture:-)
