Brief Description:  Fitting Elevators

This evening I also worked on fitting the elevators. In the instruction, you install the right elevator, drill into the center bearing. Then install the left elevator and do the same. I'll come back and do the drilling. This evening, I worked on getting the rod end bearings inserted to the correct depth.

The direction call for a distance from the spar to the center of the bolt to be 13/16 of an inch. 7/8 inch max. I ended up closer to 7/8 of and inch. Before I drill into the center bearing, I might try giving each rod end bearing a half or full turn in. (They are almost up to the jam nut now.)

I ended up taking the elevators on and off a number of times trying to get the correct counterbalance alignment. They are looking REALLY good now... but I'll have Ken take a look at them before drilling.

I picked up a set of temporary mounting tools that have a handle that allows you to insert a temporary axle. They are worth their weight in GOLD! (Called temporary assembly pins - Avery Tools - $15)
