Brief Description: first trim cut to upper cowling
In preparation to fit the upper cowl I first needed to adjust the rt upper firewall by taping it to the baggage door to minimize gap
Marked a 2 inch refrence line on baggage door and bottom of fuse. Also double checked the other side that was marked previously. This took awhile because Itried to make a wooden 2 inch marking jig...not real succesful.
While trying to clamp the front of cowl flush against the spinner bulkhead, 2 things became apparant. 1, the bulkplate flexes some and 2, the cowling sits high aft on the clecos which distorts the measurements on the front. Note, clecos are inserted in reverse or bottom up to minimize the cowl sitting hight on firewall.
Removed the bulk plate and cut out a wooden plate and removed the aluminum spacer and made PVC spacers that were cut to 1 3/4 inch which is 1/2 inch less than the prop extension spacer due to the cup in the alum spinner back plate. this puts the wooden plate 1/4 inch aft of the spinner aft edge and cowling. Once cut and sanded, I installed the plate with spacers. This will allow me to screw the front of cowl to the wooden plate for secure fitting w/o clamps getting in the way.
I cut off the excess cowl at firewall but trimmed conservatively. Glad I did too! When the cowl reinstalled after cut and the clecos didnt interfear anymore, the cowl sat down aft and came real close to firewall edge. Had I cut on the line, the cowl would have had a bigger gap Than I wanted.
Decided to stop hear for the day
Removed the alum spinner bulkhead and cut and drilled a wooden one for fitting
