After taking a somewhat extended break to watch round two of the Red Bull air races (go Paul my countryman!!), I got back into the shed to look at, you guessed it, another mod! This time, I decided to make the bracket for the parking brake handle and see how things interoperate. So, after some planning I made the bracket from some scrap piece of sheet and was quite happy with the location.
That's when I noticed the gotcha: the parking brake valve itself, mounted right way up, wants the actuation lever to go down to park, whereas pulling the brake handle will of course work in the opposite sense. I reckon I have three options and will do some Internet surfing to see what others have done here...
- Mount the valve upside down (I like this idea most)
- Design and install a bellcrank to reverse the lever action (too complex)
- Route the cable so it comes in from underneath, design a bracket (not my preferred option)
- simply have it working in the reverse sense. (er, no, I don't think so!)
