With the primer now dry on the baggage bay bulkheads and access panel parts, I riveted the doubler to the upper bulkhead, then the fourteen K1000-08 nutplates to both the bulkhead and doubler, flush heads facing forward (the door sits against them). Next I riveted the upper hinge half to the access panel with the flush heads facing aft. Last bench-top job was to rivet the Matco PV-1 parking brake valve mounting bracket to the lower bulkhead in place of the original bracket. The whole thing then went into the fuselage, making sure to get the S-bends in the doubler overlapping the F-802N cross brace. For those two hols I used AN470AD4-7 rivets, then -6 for the other holes that had the hinge and the .025" shim for the access panel, with the outer three holes on each side -5's as per the plans for the standard design. I then riveted the lower bulkhead to the side skins (except the longeron rivets which get done later with the top skin). Finally, I fitted the door, put in four screws and safety wired the hinge. I must say, I'm pleased with the way this mod has come out, though only time will tell whether it was worth the extra 10½ hrs of build time.
