Brief Description:  SafeAir1 static ports

A little bit like Christmas today; packages from SafeAir1 (replacement static air ports and alternate static air kit) and also from Perehelion Design (wing wag, low voltage light, switch guards). I also aced the exam I was going for, so I have a couple of weeks reast now before the next set of exams and can get back to the plane. I'm also expecting my Infinity grips to arrive soon. Today I ordered the TruTrak autopilot pitch and roll servos and mounting hardware from SteinAir ($ouch!!!).

Anyway, first job for me this afternoon was to fit the new SafeAir1 static ports. As you can see (maybe) the port gets riveted to the skin with four flush rivets and it protrudes slightly which supposedly gives more accurate readings than the flush mount ports. I have yet to rivet them as I'll wait for Jackie to give me a hand to back rivet them and she is out at Uni at the moment.

I then made a start on the brackets/angles for the ELT mounting, which I have chosen to put behind the F-808 bulkhead. I've used heavier 1/8" angle so I get a real solid mounting, but have the same issue as with the angles for the strobe power supply mount. The top angle needs to be opened out (whcih I've done) and the bottom angle needs to be squeezed closed. However, being thicker (the angle, not me) I am unable to squeeze the angle closed. So I suspect I shall be using a "liquid shim" here and drilling/riveting in place when its all set up. I'll do that, of course, after I've drilled for nutplates and the actual mounting plate itself (to be made from .063" minimum), and when it is all primered and ready for final fitting.
