Brief Description:  Tailwheel

I drilled and installed the rudder horn, then installed the tail wheel. I discovered the tail wheel leaf spring has a slight twist which makes the tail wheel sit canted on the floor. I will either have to try to straighten the spring or replace it. Right now I’m leaning toward replacing it. As can be seen on the second photo the front of the tail wheel assembly is pitched up slightly at the pivot
point. Right now the main gear axels are resting on 2x4’s on the floor. When I mount the wheels and tires the front of the aircraft will be higher than it is now causing the tail wheel to pitch up even more. Tail wheels that are not level are a major contributor to tail wheel shimmy. That usually happens when the tail wheel leaf spring wears out and the tail wheel pitches down. Something I’ll have to take care of.
