Brief Description: Left Tank - Interior Ribs Riveted
Stopped by the hangar for about an hour to complete a few rivets that I missed the last time. That went off without a hitch, but then I decided to start replacing some of the bad rivets on both the ribs and stiffeners.
I had one rivet on the inboard stiffener that just would not sit flush. I drilled it out twice and after screwing up the third rivet, I threw in the towel and went to the airport office for help. I ran into Mark who happens to be a very good no-nonsense A&P. He helped by supporting the end of the tank and bucking while I shot the gun. Turned out okay this time. We then talked about the rubber flush set that I was using. This requires a lot of pressure to get the head set right, and I think that's been my problem. We stopped by his hangar and he let me borrow a mushroom set without the rubber. This worked a LOT better. The direct contact made things so much easier, although I realize the risk is higher if you get off-kilter and end up denting the surface. I ordered a mushroom set from Clevleland Aircraft Tools as soon as I got home.
Now to start the outboard ribs and start hooking up the internals.
