Brief Description:  Still priming HS Parts

Well, I think I have this Sherwin Williams product figured out. It's been quite frustrating getting to this point, but the lesson learned is to take your time and don't try to push the envelope. My previous attempt using this primer failed for one of two reasons: Either I did not prep the pieces very well, or it was just plain too cold in the paint booth. Being afraid to mix the heater with paint fumes, I probably did not wait long enough for either the paint or the pieces to warm up.

Tonight I heated my single car garage to about 75 degrees, and took my time prepping just one piece. After mixing the paint thoroughly, and not creating a lot of air bubbles by overdoing it with the mixing tool, the paint set up nicely and came out of the gun just fine. I probably added about one extra ounce of catalyst to thin the paint somewhat, but I hear that some folks push it to a 2:1 ration, when the can calls for 1.5:1. This SW primer drys very quickly, so I should of added a second coat possibly, but overall I'm very happy with the result.

Now I'll have to take all the tools back to the paint booth and continue there. First I'll prep the remaining pieces in my garage though. Much nicer having a tv playing in the background while doing the drudge work.

After returning from travel this week, I'll have to prep the remaining pieces and get finished with the priming. Overall, a very good night!
